The Office of Inspector General (OIG) works within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to promote effectiveness and head off, or stop, waste, fraud, and abuse in departmental programs. The Office of Inspector General does this through audits and investigations. DOT OIG also consults with Congress regarding programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations.
Since 2009, The Canton Group has supported the DOT OIG website, going beyond the ordered tasks, updates, and monitoring, to partner with the DOT OIG to develop robust solutions. The Canton Group collaborated with the DOT OIG to create a public-facing website that has been referred to as the gold standard for other OIG applications. Our team pioneered the Recommendations Dashboard, developed integration with Oversight.gov, and implemented Google-like search and filters, serving up valuable information quickly to the end-users.
The Recommendations Dashboard view was created to provide a better way to navigate through the large volume of data within reports & recommendations. A visitor can easily view real-time statistics on open recommendations and financial information, as well as utilize many filtering options and search tools to narrow down the list of results. Visitors can quickly search by keywords, report titles, and/or report number, and see links associated with their reports specifically. A visitor can also export a downloadable CSV file of recommendations, as well as navigate to a view of the reports and recommendations that provide real-time/easy-to-use charts and graphs to represent the data in a more visual manner.
Import and export features were also created to assist the DOT OIG staff with maintaining recommendations and reports. This process has reduced the need for manual duplication of work and allows staffers the ability to not only import new data to the website but import updates to existing data through a bulk import tool. Equally, there is also a means for DOT OIG to also export the current recommendations to be utilized in other ways, eliminating the possibility of human errors that could potentially occur during manual processing.
We have improved security through regular scans and vulnerability remediation. We have a shared understanding of the DOT OIG’s environments, standing ready to serve the agency with website deployment and support.
