Tim Dodge, Canton Group's CMO, spent time talking to Year Up's students at Baltimore City Community College about careers in IT and cyber security. Year Up’s innovative program model combines six months of intensive training and education with a six-month paid corporate internship, connecting highly motivated disadvantaged 18 – 24 year olds in need of opportunity with businesses in need of talent, focusing on the fields of IT, Quality Assurance, Business Operations, and Project Management.
Since its inception in 2000, Year Up has served more than 13,000 students across 15 U.S. cities with plans for significant scale. More than 250 companies including American Express, Citi, Facebook, and Google have signed on with Year Up as corporate partners. Corporate partners look to Year Up for a pipeline of trained, pre-screened, highly motivated, diverse talent. Within 4 months of graduation from Year Up, 85% of alumni are either enrolled in college fulltime or employed fulltime with an average starting salary of over $30,000 (compared to an average pre-program income of less than $5,000). More than 90% of corporate partners would recommend partnering with Year Up to a colleague or friend.
